There is no denying Luis Enrique’s remarkable results at Paris Saint-Germain. The Spanish coach saw his side extend their winning run to four matches across all competitions Friday with a 4-1 victory over AS Monaco, temporarily increasing their lead atop the Ligue 1 table to 13 points over Olympique de Marseille.
His team has been virtually unbeatable in the French top flight since he succeeded Christophe Galtier as manager of Les Parisiens in July 2023. After 55 Ligue 1 encounters, the former UEFA Champions League winning coach has suffered just two defeats, the lowest tally for any coach at that stage of their PSG tenure.
That’s quite the feat when considering some of the names that have come before him at this club, like Carlo Ancelotti, Thomas Tuchel and Unai Emery, to name a few.
Luis Enrique’s victory on Friday means that he has pulled off another rare achievement, as PSG have yet to lose any of their first 21 league fixtures in Ligue 1. It is only the third time in club history that they have accomplished such a feat, alongside the team in 1985-86 and the one from the 2015-16 campaign.
While their Champions League campaign was touch and go early on, and they suffered a scare at the Coupe de France, this team has shown resilience and found ways to win.
Based on the numbers, Luis Enrique may have been right when he said in December that this was his “best season as a coach.”
