Luis Diaz has been Barcelona’s top target for the left-wing position for a long time now with sporting director Deco particularly being a big fan of the player.

Names including Marcus Rashford and Nico Williams have also been discussed, but even the manager is said to see something in the Colombian star that no other target provides.

The big bottleneck in the club’s pursuit of Diaz, however, is the enormous asking fee that Liverpool put forth, something Barcelona are not willing to shell out given the player’s current market value and contractual situation.

Diaz makes a statement

In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo put forth that the player dreams only of playing for Barcelona next season and that he does not feel appreciated at Liverpool.

Recent social media posts from Diaz and his partner have clearly set the tone towards a departure despite his existing contract at Anfield and it is clear that he is pushing for a change in scenery.

The Colombian star has placed all renewal talks with Liverpool on hold as it stands and is awaiting news from Spain.

With the Merseyside club spending big on Florian Wirtz, moreover, there is hope Liverpool will reduce their asking price for Diaz to recover some cash flow urgently.

The 28-year-old recently played for Colombia in the South American World Cup qualifiers and was a crucial member of his national team’s game against Argentina.

In fact, his performance against Lionel Messi’s side can only be seen to be a statement in many ways.

On the night, the Liverpool star won the ball in the middle of the flank and dribbled past four defenders to get 1v1 against Emiliano Martinez and skilfully put the ball into the back of the net. It was a goal of tremendous quality and absurd skill.

The winger has now officially made his final appearance of the season because Liverpool will not play in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

He is currently on vacation and hoping for the Barcelona move to materialise, for he sees it to be his final chance of making it to the club of his dreams.
