Liverpool’s strong start to the season has been mainly spearheaded by the performances of Luis Diaz.

The Colombian has already scored five goals and registered one assist in the Reds’ opening five league games.

Following his brace against Bournemouth on Saturday, Diaz outlined his ambitions for Arne Slot’s first season at the helm.

With fixtures rapidly beckoning in various competitions, Diaz told TNT Sports Mexico that Liverpool have their eyes on winning ‘everything’.

“Well, the ambitions [and] the objectives that we have set, both as a team and individually, is to win everything. I think we all work for that. We're always aware of what we want.

“We want to win everything possible this season because we know that in previous seasons we didn't achieve it.

“So [we] try to work for that, try to continue in that same way, rest because now a series of super important matches are coming, and we have to be prepared,” Diaz said.

Are Liverpool more ambitious than Manchester City?

Diaz's words on Liverpool's objectives for the 2024/25 season have been followed by somewhat contrasting comments made by Pep Guardiola after Manchester City defeated Watford to book their place in round four of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Over recent years, Liverpool and City have been the two juggernauts of English football, competing on all fronts, with the two sides being far superior to their counterparts.

However, Guardiola - who portrayed a frustrated figure after their victory over Watford - made a surprise admission that they may not be going hammer and tongs for the Carabao Cup.

In his press conference, the Man City manager said: "In the next round of the Carabao Cup, we're going to play the players that play less minutes or the second team. We are not going to waste energy for this competition, for sure."

These comments come in the aftermath of having key players sidelined such as Nathan Ake, Kevin de Bruyne and now Rodri, who will miss the rest of the season.
