Arne Slot is set to be boosted by the return of a key attacker
Liverpool are set to welcome back Cody Gakpo for their Champions League showdown against Paris Saint-Germain tonight.
Gakpo missed Liverpool’s 1-0 win over PSG after sitting out a training session the day prior and subsequently missed the 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend.
However, in a massive boost for the Reds ahead of the return leg against PSG - as well as Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle - Gakpo was present for an open training session on Monday.
Slot later said at his pre-match press conference: “Yeah, he will be in the squad. Today he was training for the first time.”
Though, given Gakpo’s last start was a month ago in the Merseyside derby draw with Everton, it could be that he is named among the substitutes against PSG as Slot does not need to take any risks.
Darwin Nunez scored as Liverpool beat Southampton on Saturday and will be pushing to retain his place in the starting lineup over Diogo Jota and his impact for Harvey Elliott’s winner in Paris just might give him the edge.

Another option for Slot is to go without a recognised centre-forward. This tactical set-up worked a treat in the recent 2-0 win over Manchester City and that would mean a start for Curtis Jones.
Andy Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister are likely to earn recalls having been partially rested to the bench at the weekend, whilst Dominik Szoboszlai has avoided injury for Liverpool.
Liverpool predicted XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Nunez
Injured: Morton, Gomez, Bradley
