Liverpool may have only just ended their 2024/25 campaign, but the new season is only just around the corner.

Arne Slot's men begin preparations for next season in less than a month on July 7th. By then Liverpool will hope to have the likes of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez join up with the squad.

At this moment in time, three new faces are already guaranteed. Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi will all begin their careers as Liverpool players come the 7th July.

But as well as having new faces from new signings, there will also bound to be new faces from the academy as well.

Naturally, every summer there will be a handful of the club's best prospects who are called-up to the first team and given an opportunity to impress.

This time around the likes of Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni will be guaranteed an opportunity. But they are not going to be alone. Other academy stars are going to be given a chance as well, including potentially Trent Kone-Doherty.

The Republic of Ireland youth international made his debut for Slot's first team in the FA Cup against Plymouth last season.

Kone-Doherty only played a handful of minutes in that game but he definitely caught the eye and was a rare bright spark in what was an otherwise bleak afternoon for Liverpool.

Still only 18-years-old, although he will be 19-years-old by the time pre-season starts, he's about to reach an age where he will be thinking about the next steps in his career.

At around 19-years-old, players will need to be playing regular football and not just at any level but playing in senior football.

He's outgrown the U21 team and he needs a new challenge. And it looks like he will be given an opportunity at first team level.

Because on Tuesday Kone-Doherty posted a potentially exciting image on his Instagram story. The youngster put up a picture of himself training alongside Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson with the club's first team.

It's a cryptic post but a potentially exciting one. Perhaps Kone-Doherty is hinting at his involvement with the first team in pre-season.

It certainly would not be a surprise.

Kone-Doherty had the best dribble success rate (73.21%) in the Premier League 2 last season. His one vs one ability is something Liverpool want to add more of to the first team in order to provide extra threat to the attack.

It seems like Slot is a fan of Kone-Doherty as well. He was after all one of the few youngsters who were given an opportunity under him last season.

Obviously though looking beyond pre-season, Kone-Doherty's future may be best served by going out on loan this summer.

As we mentioned above he needs to play regular minutes in order to fulfil his potential. At this moment in time Liverpool cannot guarantee him those minutes.
