Arne Slot happy to see Liverpool competing with Premier League big spenders

Liverpool have won 2-1 against Lille in their Champions League match at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah scored on the counter-attack in the first half and the hosts were cruising when Lille’s Aissa Mandi was sent off for a second bookable offence.

But Jonathan David’s equaliser stunned the home side, who then enjoyed a slice of luck as Harvey Elliott’s speculative strike took a deflection on its way in.

The result meant Liverpool have won seven out of seven games in the new league phase and have qualified for the last-16.

Bologna stun embattled Dortmund 2-1 with two-goal comeback in two minutes

Bologna struck twice in two minutes to bag a 2-1 comeback win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday and earn their first win in the competition while piling pressure on the embattled Germans who suffered a fourth straight loss across all competitions.

Dortmund, who took the lead with a 15th-minute Serhou Guirassy penalty, have now lost all their matches in 2025 after Bologna staged a quickfire comeback with goals from Thijs Dallinga in the 71st and Samuel Iling-Junior a minute later.

With coach Nuri Sahin's future now in the balance, Dortmund, who play Shakhtar Donetsk on the final matchday, dropped to 13th on 12 points. The top eight teams advance to the round of 16 with the next 16 teams going into playoffs.

The Italians, who had scored only one goal in their previous six Champions league matches, move up to 27th with five points.

It had all started well for the visitors, who put on early pressure and were rewarded with a penalty. Guirassy's chip into the middle was weak but despite Bologna's keeper getting a hand to the ball, it was enough for the striker's seventh goal of the competition.

Dortmund looked to be in complete control of the game and heading towards the brink of automatic qualification to the round of 16. But they inexplicably eased off after the break, allowing the hosts back into the match.

Bologna levelled following a quick break when substitute Dallinga slotted in the equaliser in the 71st.

Before the Dortmund defence had time to recover, the Italian side struck again with another quick move and another deep cross from Charalambos Lykogiannis which substitute Iling-Junior finished off thanks partly to defensive errors by the Germans.

With their opponents having given up, Bologna should have added at least two more goals with a string of golden chances, including through Jens Odgaard.

De Jong scores twice as 10-man PSV beat Red Star Belgrade

Luuk de Jong scored a brace of goals as 10-man PSV Eindhoven put in a commanding first-half display but were then forced to hold on for victory in a 3-2 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade at a freezing Stadion Rajko Mitic on Tuesday.

Ryan Flamingo scored the Dutch club’s third goal but when he was sent off early in the second period, the momentum shifted towards the home side and they netted through headers from Cherif Ndiaye and Nasser Djiga.

PSV remain on course for the playoffs with 11 points from their seven matches, while Red Star are out of contention having managed three points from the same number of fixtures.

PSV hit the front as De Jong rose to meet an outswinging corner from Joey Veerman and powered his header from 15 yards into the far corner of the net. He added a second from another Veerman corner shortly afterwards.

The visitors had a third before halftime and again it came from a corner as Red Star could only clear the ball to the edge of the box and centre back Flamingo volleyed home a thunderous strike.

But Flamingo’s joy turned to disbelief when he received a straight red card five minutes into the second period after he brought down Nemanja Radonjic on the edge of the box and was deemed to be the last defender.

Red Star felt they had a chance with a numerical advantage and they pulled two goals back as Ndiaye and Djiga scored with headers, but despite heavy pressure in the closing minutes, they couldn’t find an equalising goal.
