Liverpool's interest in Athletic Club star Nico Williams may count for little with the 21-year-old reportedly eager to join Barcelona.

The left winger, who has dazzled at Euro 2024 this summer with Spain, has been strongly linked with a summer transfer, with Liverpool among the many sides touted with interest in his signature.

The exceptional youngster would set the Reds back just £47m owing to a release clause in his current contract, although his reported salary demands of over £300,000-a-week may have put Liverpool off making a move.

But Liverpool's admiration of the player may not matter come the end of the transfer window, with Williams ready to reject Premier League advances in a bid to secure a move to Barcelona, according to HITC.

NICO WILLIAMS KEEN ON BARCA TRANSFER

According to the report, Barca president Joan Laporta has already approved a deal for Williams, with the exciting Spaniard a priority target for new manager Hansi Flick.

Despite their financial difficulties, La Blaugrana are eager to get a deal sorted this summer and Williams is also keen on playing for the Catalonian giants - where he would team up with international teammates Pedri and Lamine Yamal.

However, a deal may hinge on Barca's ability to offload Raphinha and Ferran Torres for big money in the coming weeks. Williams has 'no interest' in a move to England as per HITC.

A potential Barca transfer for Williams could have huge ramifications. The Reds would miss out on one of their summer targets but it would also likely end any interest the Spanish side have in Liverpool star Luis Diaz, who plays in the same position as the Athletic Club forward.

Barca have been strongly linked with a move for Diaz over the past few months and Liverpool may be willing to listen to offers around the £50m mark for their Colombian dynamo.

Barca don't find themselves in a strong enough financial position to sign both players and they likely wouldn't want to given they perform similar functions.
