Romano discussed the race on his YouTube channel, making it clear that while Bayern are favourites, Liverpool are doing all they can.
"If he goes to Bayern, Liverpool will have no regrets because they did their very best,” he says.
Perhaps the most interesting part of it all, though, was about Liverpool’s mentality in the transfer. It appears the Reds are willing to be incredibly patient here.
“I’m also told that Manchester City probably wanted Florian Wirtz to be faster with his decision,” he said. “Manchester City didn’t want to wait too long. Liverpool, for example, are willing to accept the player time."
That’s a stance that will transform the entire transfer window. Liverpool, after all, cannot go out and spend a lot of money before Wirtz makes his decision.
If they do, they’re making the decision for him. The willingness to wait this one out suggests Liverpool are all-in on Wirtz but also content with missing out on other targets while the player decides.
Someone like Hugo Ekitike has Liverpool’s eye, for instance, but there’s a lot of interest there from other teams. The Reds may well miss out by waiting.
But wait they will as Wirtz makes the defining decision of his career. It’s one that will change his future - and that of the clubs waiting it out.
