Liverpool’s interest in Rayan Cherki has been long-standing, but recent reports suggest that the French prodigy could soon be available for a fraction of his original asking price. According to Mundo Deportivo, Lyon are now willing to let the 19-year-old attacker leave for a reduced fee of around £16.6 million (20 million euros), significantly less than the previously cited €30-35 million. This shift in Lyon’s stance has stirred the transfer market, with several clubs, including Liverpool, reportedly showing renewed interest in the Frenchman.
Cherki’s talent has never been in question. The Lyon starlet has already shown flashes of brilliance, notably contributing to five goals in just seven starts this season, including two goals and three assists. His performances in the French Ligue 1 and during the Paris Olympics, where his French team lost to Spain in the final, have only served to increase his reputation. Given his raw talent and potential, it’s not surprising that Liverpool, alongside the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Betis, are now circling to secure his services.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Lyon’s decision to lower their demands stems from financial pressures. In the past, the French club had rejected offers for Cherki that exceeded the current asking price. However, their financial situation has forced them to reconsider, with the club seemingly keen to avoid potential punishment and financial penalties. Lyon’s reduced asking price of €20 million could make Cherki an attractive proposition for clubs looking to strengthen without breaking the bank.

This situation has placed Liverpool in a strong position. Known for their sharp business acumen in the transfer market, the Reds could now snap up one of Europe’s brightest young talents at a fraction of what Lyon originally sought. Given the relative low cost and Cherki’s undeniable potential, this could be an opportunity too good to pass up.
Although Liverpool is believed to be one of the frontrunners in the race to secure Cherki, they will face stiff competition from several high-profile clubs. Real Betis, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain are all reportedly monitoring the situation closely. However, with Liverpool’s established reputation for nurturing young talent and the potential for immediate first-team opportunities, they could have the edge over their competitors.
Cherki’s departure from Lyon seems almost inevitable. Similar to previous star departures like Karim Benzema and Nabil Fekir, the 19-year-old is expected to leave the club in search of a bigger challenge. With Lyon’s financial struggles, Cherki’s time at the club may be coming to an end, and he could make the move as early as January.
For Liverpool, securing Cherki’s signature could be a key move in bolstering their attacking options. With the Reds aiming to compete at the highest level both domestically and in Europe, adding a player of Cherki’s calibre would bring both creativity and depth to their forward line. While the club already boasts a wealth of attacking talent, Cherki’s versatility and skill on the ball could make him a valuable asset to Arne Slot’s squad as they look to continue their upward trajectory in the post-Klopp era under Slot.

Cherki’s ability to operate in multiple attacking positions could prove useful, offering Liverpool flexibility in their offensive setup. His sharp dribbling, vision, and goal-scoring ability would complement Liverpool’s high-pressing game and add another dimension to their attack.
The opportunity to sign Rayan Cherki for such a reasonable fee is an exciting proposition. His potential is undeniable, and if Liverpool can secure his signature, they would be adding another star to their already impressive roster. While the Reds have invested heavily in their squad in recent seasons, this is an example of the club doing business shrewdly, securing a promising young player at a fraction of the expected cost.
The added benefit is that Cherki is exactly the kind of player who could thrive under the guidance of Arne Slot. His style of play, which includes quick footwork, creativity, and the ability to pick out passes, would blend well with Slot’s tactical approach. Furthermore, his ability to adapt to various attacking roles would give Liverpool much-needed flexibility, particularly in their pursuit of domestic and European honours.
Liverpool fans will hope that the club acts quickly and decisively. Cherki’s availability for such a low fee is a rare chance to add a player with immense upside to their squad. If the Reds can fend off competition from other suitors and secure his signing, it could be one of the shrewdest acquisitions of the transfer window, offering long-term rewards at a bargain price.
