Liverpool are closing on on a deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and if that results in Andrew Robertson playing second fiddle then he is ‘unlikely to sit around as second choice’ at Anfield.

After a quiet transfer window last summer and then in the winter, Liverpool have started to release funds to do major deals.

Jeremie Frimpong has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen after Liverpool triggered his €35m release clause, while they are also closing in on signing Florian Wirtz from the same club in a deal which could end up costing close to €150m.

They also want another left-back and are rapidly closing in on the signing of Bournemouth’s Kerkez, something acknowledged by one of his team-mates.

Robertson is currently Liverpool’s first choice left-back, ahead of Kostas Tsimikas, but that could well change with Kerkez’s arrival.

And, according to Scottish journalist Barry Anderson, Scotland international Robertson would be ‘unlikely to sit around as second choice’.

Robertson now has interest from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, who could take him to La Liga.

Atletico Madrid had a recent positive experience of signing an experienced full-back from English football when they snapped up Kieran Trippier from Tottenham Hotspur.

He ended up making 86 appearances for Atletico Madrid and won La Liga with the club.

Robertson, 31, has just a year left on his current deal at Liverpool and selling him this summer could be the Reds’ final chance to earn a fee from his exit.

The Scot made 45 appearances in total over the course of the recent season as Liverpool scooped up the Premier League title.

Robertson played in eight Champions League games for Liverpool in the campaign, providing an assist in a 2-0 win over Real Madrid at Anfield.

He has never played his football outside the UK and a move to Spain could be a tempting one for Robertson.
