There wasn’t a dry eye at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool bid farewell to their outgoing manager, Jurgen Klopp.

After nearly nine years in charge, the German leaves having put the club back on its domestic and European pedestal, re-establishing Liverpool as the world’s greatest clubs.

Times are changing on Merseyside this summer with the likely appointment of Arne Slot as new head coach now imminent.

A period of adjustment is ahead for not only Liverpool fans but their players too.

One man in particular will be playing his first-ever professional club matches under a manager who is NOT Jurgen Klopp.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a Liverpool first-team player since October 2016, when Klopp gave him a debut in the EFL Cup against Tottenham.

Since that day, the now-25-year-old has become one of the world’s best right backs, albeit now occasionally featuring in the midfield.

Under Klopp he has hoovered up the honours, helping Liverpool snap their three-decade long wait for a league title in 2020 and adding a sixth European Cup to the honours board in 2019.

Trent has become a Liverpool legend, immortalised with a mural close to the ground and the club vice-captain is one of the most beloved homegrown prospects ever to wear the shirt.

It all got a little too much for the England international on Sunday, who broke down when giving an interview to broadcasters Viaplay while attempting to put Klopp’s impact on him, his family and his entire LIFE into context.

Having played 310 times under Klopp and no one else in the professional ranks, scoring 19 times and adding 81 assists, it’s heart-wrenching to think that the time has come to say goodbye.

“He's changed my life and everyone around me, my whole family,” Trent said, fighting through tears.

“This was all possible through him so I can never say thank you enough for that. He made my dreams come true so there's a big thank you to him for that.

“I'm never emotional, honestly. Ask my family, ask anyone, I'm not emotional, I can't remember the last time I cried.

“Honestly, I haven't cried in years so this is very, very, very strange for me. It just shows how much he means to me and the club.”
