Manchester United are said to be looking at bringing a Liverpool reject to Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp shocked Liverpool fans in January when he announced he would be leaving the club at the end of the decision. Many fans thought he would be at Liverpool until at least 2026 after he signed an extension on his deal.

It left fans with just one question, who will be Klopp's successor as they will have big shoes to fill.

Ultimately, the role was given to Arne Slot who has had an exceptional start to life on Merseyside, winning 10 out of his first 11 games in charge. However, many names were linked with the job, including former Liverpool midfielder and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.

United want Amorim

One coach heavily linked with the Reds was Ruben Amorim but it was later revealed Arne Slot was the club's first choice as reported by Caught Offside.

The Sporting Lisbon manager, who was also wanted by West Ham and has been impressive in Portugal, he has quickly established himself as one of the brightest and most promising talents in football management.

The 39-year-old had already been lined up to possibly replace Pep Guardiola but now Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg is reporting that Manchester United has made inquiries about Amorim's current situation.

United could soon be on the hunt for a replacement for Erik ten Hag if their form and results don’t improve and fast. They went into the international break with a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa extending their winless streak in all competitions to five matches.

The stalemate also marked their third consecutive Premier League game without a goal, adding to the growing concerns surrounding the team’s lack of firepower. Currently sitting 14th in the table with just eight points, the pressure on Erik ten Hag is intensifying.

Amorim in-demand

The possibility of Amorim joining City has gained momentum following the club's appointment of Hugo Viana as their new director of football. Viana played a pivotal role in bringing Amorim to Sporting Lisbon from Braga, paying a substantial €10 million to secure his services.

The move has since paid off, with Amorim proving to be a managerial success. Given their history and the success they’ve achieved together, Viana’s arrival at City could pave the way for Amorim to take charge at the Etihad in the future.

Amorim's tenure at Sporting Lisbon has been nothing short of transformative, ending the club's long title drought. Viana’s influence could certainly make Amorim’s potential appointment more straightforward and maintain the style and philosophy Guardiola has established.

Meanwhile, things are less clear at United. However, Amorim's profile as a young, forward-thinking coach showing immense potential could provide the fresh start needed at Old Trafford.
