Liverpool’s pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni is back on the agenda as Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly seeks to offload the French midfielder. According to Fichajes, Perez has grown increasingly frustrated with Tchouameni’s performances, particularly after his underwhelming display in the Spanish Super Cup defeat to Barcelona. For Liverpool fans, this development could mark a significant turning point in the January transfer window.
Liverpool’s interest in Tchouameni isn’t new. The Reds initially tried to sign the Frenchman from AS Monaco back in 2022, but he chose to join Real Madrid. Fast forward to 2025, and the story has taken a twist. Reports suggest Perez is now open to parting ways with Tchouameni, which is a drastic shift from Madrid’s previous stance.

Fichajes claims that Tchouameni’s failure to meet expectations at the Bernabeu has led Perez to consider selling him. His poor performance in Real’s recent 5-2 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup seems to have been the final straw. With injuries plaguing Madrid’s defence, Carlo Ancelotti deployed Tchouameni as a centre-back for much of this season. However, the experiment hasn’t worked, and Perez’s patience appears to be wearing thin.
“Perez has identified the France international midfielder as one of three players he wants to get rid of,” noted Fichajes, highlighting the growing pressure on Madrid’s squad to deliver results.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool have shown immense improvement this season. Yet, the manager remains keen on bolstering his midfield options. With Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch already making their mark, Tchouameni could be the perfect addition to Slot’s tactical setup.
According to TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher, Liverpool are actively looking to secure Tchouameni in the January window. Slot’s desire to strengthen the midfield comes as the Reds aim to clinch the Premier League title and push deep into the Champions League knockout stages.

“Slot wants more bodies in midfield for the second half of the season as the Reds aim to win the Premier League title,” Fletcher reported. The renewed interest from Liverpool suggests the club is ready to capitalise on Madrid’s apparent willingness to sell.
Tchouameni’s potential arrival at Anfield would add a new dimension to Liverpool’s midfield. Despite his recent struggles at Madrid, his qualities as a dynamic midfielder remain evident. His ability to break up play, carry the ball forward, and contribute defensively could provide the balance that Slot seeks.
Liverpool fans will recall the frustration of missing out on Tchouameni in 2022. Now, with Perez seemingly ready to cut ties, the stars may finally align. For Slot, the challenge will be ensuring that Tchouameni’s talents are maximised in a system that plays to his strengths.
Perez’s decision to potentially offload Tchouameni is not just about performances. It’s also a statement about Real Madrid’s evolving priorities. Fichajes noted, “Tchouameni arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu amid hype and expectation, but he has not always delivered and could now be sold.” For Liverpool, this could be the chance to right a previous wrong.

While Liverpool’s interest is clear, securing Tchouameni’s signature may not be straightforward. Madrid’s asking price and potential competition from other clubs could complicate the deal. Additionally, questions remain about whether Tchouameni would be willing to leave Madrid after just two years.
Nevertheless, with Liverpool’s ambition and Slot’s clear vision, the Reds could present an attractive proposition for the Frenchman. If the deal materialises, it would be a statement signing that could bolster Liverpool’s title hopes.
For Liverpool supporters, the prospect of signing Aurelien Tchouameni feels like a dream reignited. The initial disappointment of missing out on him in 2022 is still fresh in the memory, but there’s a sense of unfinished business.
“Tchouameni would add that extra bit of quality we need in midfield. He’s the missing piece in Slot’s puzzle,” a fan commented on social media.
If Real Madrid are indeed looking to sell, Liverpool must act swiftly. Tchouameni’s versatility and physical presence could transform the midfield, especially with the likes of Gravenberch and Mac Allister already thriving.
However, some fans remain cautious. “Madrid rarely let go of players they still see value in. Is there more to this story than meets the eye?” a supporter questioned. It’s a valid point, but Liverpool’s recruitment team has shown time and again that they can spot an opportunity when it arises.
In Slot’s system, Tchouameni could shine. His ability to play in various roles, coupled with his strong defensive attributes, would allow Liverpool to control games more effectively. The midfield has been a key area of improvement this season, and adding a player of Tchouameni’s calibre could make all the difference.
In the end, it’s a transfer saga worth keeping a close eye on. As one fan aptly put it, “If we can get Tchouameni, we’re not just building for the present. We’re building for the future.”
