Liverpool can book their place in the Carabao Cup final on Thursday evening but must overturn a one-goal deficit against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The Reds suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Lucas Bergvall deciding the encounter with a late strike. The defending champions know they must win by two clear goals to secure their place in the showpiece event, with a one-goal victory forcing them to take their chances with extra time and potentially penalties. Draw or defeat will see them exit the competition.

Fortunately for Arne Slot, he has just one absentee for the visit of the injury-stricken Spurs. Counterpart Ange Postecoglou has a mountain of fitness issues to contend with but only Trent Alexander-Arnold is missing for the Reds. They will be favourites to overturn first leg disappointment and book their spot at Wembley Stadium.

Here is how Liverpool could line up against Tottenham on Thursday evening.

GK: Alisson - The Brazilian has already conceded four to Spurs this season and will be attempting to prevent compatriot and former Everton striker Richarlison from adding to that total.

RB: Conor Bradley - Injury to Alexander-Arnold means that Bradley will start at right-back on Thursday. The Northern Irishman is an impressive deputy but will be tasked with handling the indefatigable Son Heung-min.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - The Frenchman has been back to his best in recent matches following an initially patchy return from injury and will have the unenviable assignment of shutting out a gung-ho Spurs forward line.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - The skipper may not have long left to claim silverware on Merseyside as his contract ticks down, with last season's triumph in this competition coming courtesy of his 118th-minute winner in the final.

LB: Kostas Tsimikas - The man who provided the assist for Van Dijk in the final, Tsimikas could return to the starting XI on Thursday following another unconvincing Andy Robertson display at the weekend.

DM: Ryan Gravenberch - Liverpool's most improved player this season has seldom put a foot wrong in 2024/25 and will want to dominate the midfield battle against the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr.

DM: Alexis Mac Allister - Mac Allister scored in the 6-3 demolition of Spurs earlier this season and wouldn't mind getting his name on the scoresheet again this Thursday as he chases his second trophy with Liverpool.

RW: Mohamed Salah - Following another match-winning display against Bournemouth, Salah will be aiming to continue his magnificent record against Spurs. He has 14 goals and four assists in 22 past meetings, including four strikes in his last five duels with them at Anfield.

AM: Dominik Szoboszlai - Szoboszlai was a man possessed during the Premier League victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this term, scoring and assisting in an eye-catching attacking midfield display.

LW: Cody Gakpo - Gakpo has been in exceptional form this season and will be aiming to take full advantage of Pedro Porro's defensive deficiencies during Thursday's encounter.

ST: Luis Diaz - Liverpool's Colombian was among the goals in the six-goal victory back in December, bagging a well-taken brace to avenge the previous season's heartbreak and injustice in north London.
