Richard Hughes' hard work this summer has all led to this.

Just a few days left until the window shuts and we stop talking about transfers (not really) until it all begins again in January.

It's been a gargantuan effort from the club's sporting director. Hughes didn't have it easy, and it's important to say that he didn't do it alone - he's supported by a very strong recruitment staff at the club.

Nonetheless, making a title winning team stronger and replacing key players is never an easy task, no matter how many people are supporting you.

Liverpool though might have just done it. They have endeavoured to make Arne Slot's side better than last season and they are on course to do that.

Already there's been a lot of investment this summer. Florian Wirtz signed for a club record fee. Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez arrived for big money, too.

Then there were the signatures of Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni.

Not to mention future signings like Will Wright and Armin Pecsi as well as the important free transfer of Freddie Woodman.

It means Liverpool have a strong squad, regardless of who else comes in from now until the end of the window. But that doesn't mean Hughes is resting on his laurels.

He's ready to go out with a bang and we all know what the final icing on the cake will be for him and Liverpool. It's the prize they have coveted all summer - Alexander Isak.

He's the one Liverpool want. The one they have wanted ever since he was a teenager bursting onto the scene at AIK in Sweden. The one they have wanted since the beginning of the summer. He's the reason why Liverpool haven't targeted any other striker in this summer's window.

It's Isak or bust, which is a risky strategy but it's one Hughes will be hoping it pays off.

And it's looking like it will. Despite the reluctance from Newcastle and despite their inability to find replacements for Isak, Liverpool seem confident of getting the deal over the line.

Not just for the Swede but also for Marc Guehi, who is again a much needed reinforcement at centre-back.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are waiting patiently and they are ready to finalise a double deal for the duo before the transfer deadline.

His report claims Liverpool have agreed personal terms with both players. All that remains is for Newcastle and Crystal Palace to find replacements.

Hopefully, that happens sooner rather than later. If it does, Hughes will have pulled off a mega double deal to end the window with a massive bang.
