That said, we now know Liverpool’s stance over Nunez and he will be off should one of his European suitors come up with the money.
Jota’s situation is less clear-cut. He is out of contract in 2027 and given his patchy injury record - as well as his age - it would be no surprise to see the club part ways with the Portuguese.
Selling those two could leave over £100m in the transfer kitty to be lavished on a new No9 and it appears that Richard Hughes is conducting two-track negotiations in a bid to get a deal for a striker over the line.
That’s according to a new report in Rousing the Kop - which suggests Liverpool are chasing both Alexander Isak AND Victor Osimhen in the current window.
© IMAGO - Liverpool's striker options this summer, Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike.
“The Reds continue to be hopeful of luring the 25-year-old away from Newcastle,” the report states of Isak.
“Should Liverpool receive encouragement that a deal can be done, they are likely to make their move.”
Isak is of course the dream target but it’s not going to be easy to match the Magpies valuation. And that’s why talks have been continuing over a move for Napoli frontman Osimhen.
“Conversations have taken place between the Nigerian’s agents and Liverpool,” the report reads.
The 26-year-old is available - with only a year left on his contract - and looks a readymade, world-class solution for the Reds so long as his wage demands can be satisfied.
Osimhen is coming off the back of a stellar, double-winning season with Galatasaray but would end up costing around half the fee that Newcastle want for Isak. Incidentally, Hugo Ekitike is apparently out of reach owing to the Eintracht Frankfurt asking price.
