Liverpool NEED to bring back club legend right now

Liverpool need a striker and this should see them trying to bring back a former club legend.

Richard Hughes has done a wonderful job at Anfield so far this summer. He's secured the arrivals of a couple of very exciting players both for the present and the future in Armin Pecsi and Jeremie Frimpong.

The club's sporting director could also pull off a major coup in the coming days, bringing in Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz in what could be an incredible double deal.

But undoubtedly the biggest headache he needs to fix at Liverpool is the question of the no.9 position.

It's clear that the Reds cannot continue with Darwin Nunez playing upfront. The Uruguayan is not favoured by Arne Slot and does not have a long-term future at Anfield.

Behind him, Slot has had to experiment playing the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. However, going forward, he'll want to have a proper number nine next season.

Right now the forward market is a very difficult one. Players are being snatched up, left, right and centre. Others who are extremely valuable like Alexander Isak and Julian Alvarez, have a huge asking price.

This puts Liverpool in a very difficult position. Long-term Hughes knows he needs to sign a young forward but right now the Reds might not be able to afford the asking price touted for some of the club's options.

So where does that leave Liverpool? It leaves them potentially looking at a temporary option. And there is one very easy temporary option you can't look past.

Someone who is adored at Liverpool and who is probably one of the best number nines the club has ever had is available this summer.

We're talking about Roberto Firmino, of course. He's undoubtedly a club legend and he's on the market at the moment.

The Brazilian was excluded from Al-Ahli's Saudi Pro League squad but still went onto score a hat-trick in the final of the AFC Champions League to help secure his side the trophy.

Firmino is an elite footballer and at 33-years-old, he's still definitely got one more year left at the highest level. Real Madrid are one of the clubs looking to sign him but the Reds shouldn't let him go there and taint his legacy.

Liverpool would be smart to try to convince him to return for one last hurrah. A bit like when Rafa Benitez brought back Robbie Fowler.

On paper, the Brazilian is the perfect fit for Arne Slot's side. He presses, and he creates chances for his teammates but he can also score goals.

The prospect of Firmino playing alongside the likes of Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Frimpong and Kerkez in a more energetic Liverpool team would be mouthwatering.

He'd fit right in and given there aren't many options available for the right price at the moment, this is a deal that makes sense for everyone involved.
