Paris Saint-Germain initially took a short-term approach by loaning Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for another season, but his future is now decided, with the German club securing him permanently.
Back in September, Christian Falk reported that Manchester City and Liverpool were closely watching Simons’ situation. Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester United also showed interest earlier in the summer, highlighting the Dutch midfielder’s rising stock among Europe’s elite clubs.
More recently, CaughtOffside suggested that Manchester United might have the upper hand over Manchester City in the race to sign Simons next summer.
Last week, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Simons has officially joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal from PSG. The transfer is valued at €80 million, including add-ons, with an initial fee of €55 million and a sell-on clause.
Romano also revealed that Simons’ contract runs until June 2027, though he could be on the move again as soon as this summer, with several clubs already keeping tabs on him.

Despite having a contract that runs until 2027, don’t expect Simons to stay long-term in Leipzig as Football Transfer’s Robin Bairner believes this summer the midfielder will be on the move.
“It would make sense, I guess, from a logical perspective, looking from the outside,” Bairner said on the latest PSG Talking podcast. “But when you speak to people who know about football transfers and what’s going on behind the scenes, all of them seem to be pointing to a big move for Xavi Simons in the summer.
“That has been the noise. There’s no indication to hang on for a long time. This very much seems to be a short-term marriage of convenience between Leipzig and Simons.”
