According to Portuguese outlet A Bola one of Luna Galaxy’s key players, Jafonso, has switched Jota’s side for a place on Al-Nassr’s roster only three months after becoming a world champion.
The 20-year-old was announced by Al-Nassr Esports over the weekend and was pictured next to Cristiano Ronaldo holding one of the club’s jerseys.
Jafonso signed a new deal with Luna Galaxy running till 2026 in September and therefore Al-Nassr had to pay a transfer fee to secure his services.
Al-Nassr paid a total of €140,000 for Jafonso, making the deal the most expensive in history for an EA Sports’ FC player.
Jafonso left a heartfelt message to fans of Luna Galaxy on his social media before the move to Al-Nassr was announced, saying: “Without a doubt, I lived the best years of my life with this team. The memories, achievements, and people will stay with me.
“Thank you, Diogo Jota, for giving me the conditions and the opportunity to become the person and athlete I am today. Armando [the team’s coach], thank you for believing in my potential and, deep down, for everything you did for me and all we went through together in these past years.
“I also want to thank everyone who crossed my path over the last three years and, in some way, helped me evolve to where I am today.”
The day before his move to Al-Nassr it was announced that Jafonso had become the first Esports athlete to join Polaris Sport, who represent footballers such as Ronaldo, Joao Felix, Lamine Yamal and Diogo Jota.
