Liverpool Artist Calls on Fans to Honour Diogo Jota with Powerful Mural Tribute

In the heart of Liverpool, where football and community intertwine like nowhere else, an emotional tribute is taking shape. Local artist Paul Curtis, whose murals already adorn Anfield and the city’s streets, is inviting fans to help decide the design of a mural that will remember Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who tragically died in a car crash in Spain last week.

Fans Rally Around Jota’s Legacy

Curtis, renowned for his depictions of club legends such as Bill Shankly and Kenny Dalglish, is preparing to paint a new piece of Liverpool history. This time though, the brushstrokes will carry heavy emotion. The mural will pay tribute not just to Jota’s influence on the pitch but also to the deep family tragedy that has shaken the footballing world.

Supporters have been asked to choose between two powerful mural designs, each capturing a poignant moment in the lives of the Portuguese brothers. It’s more than artwork, it’s about memory, unity and the ability of football to bring people together in grief and gratitude.

What started with a modest £2,000 fundraising goal has turned into something extraordinary. Donations have now soared past £23,000. The generosity speaks volumes about the impact Diogo Jota has made at Liverpool and beyond.

More Than Paint on Walls

The funds will go towards covering the mural’s expenses, including the cost of materials and the hire of a cherry picker to complete the work. After those are covered, the remaining money will go to charity. The fundraising page explains, “we are trying to find out what Diogo’s chosen charities are at the moment”.

This is the sort of response Liverpool has always been known for. Tragedy is never met with silence in this city. The voices rise, the hands reach out and the people respond.

Memorial in the Making

Diogo Jota, Liverpool’s No.20, has been a crucial figure during Arne Slot’s title-winning campaign in 2024/25. But now, the game pauses for something far more meaningful.

“Our No.20 and his brother deserve to be remembered forever and a quality mural is a brilliant idea for supporters and family of the Portuguese to visit,” reads the tribute.

Curtis’s work will be more than paint on a wall. It will be a place of memory, emotion and reflection. A piece of the city standing still, so that time doesn’t wash away the lives of two young men who meant so much to so many.

As the votes are counted and brushes prepared, Liverpool stands together again. For Diogo. For Andre. For family.
