Liverpool drop player's price by £30m after just ONE game under Arne Slot | OneFootball

Liverpool have started the season well, and a huge part of that has been their defensive record, only conceding two goals in their first six games.

Virgil van Dijk has put on a number of dominating displays, leading Liverpool to four clean sheets and even scoring in the Reds 3-1 win over AC Milan.

Although Jarell Quansah started the season as Van Dijk’s partner, he was substituted after just 45 minutes in Liverpool’s opener against Ipswich Town and hasn’t featured at all since.

Arne Slot now clearly prefers Ibrahima Konate as his second centre half, and the Frenchman has repaid Slot’s faith by impressing on the pitch.

Gomez’s place in Slot’s plans

One player who hasn’t had a look-in since Slot arrived at Anfield is Joe Gomez.

The 15-capped Englishman hasn’t played a single minute under the Reds’ new head coach and was the subject of plenty of transfer interest over the summer.

Now, dubious reports from Italy are claiming that Gomez could be on his way to Milan.

Interlive.it are claiming that Inter Milan could bring the 27-year-old to the San Siro, and for a discounted price too.

The report claims that Gomez had been previously valued at €42 million but that now his valuation sits at around €20 million.

Could Gomez leave Anfield?

Whilst the interest reported may be genuine, it’s hard to believe that Liverpool would let such a versatile defensive option go for less than they sold Sepp van den Berg for this summer.

Gomez can be deployed in the centre of the defence or as a fullback on either flank, and this versatility will no doubt come in handy for Slot later in the season.

Although Gomez hasn’t featured yet under Slot, he may still have a part to play in his plans and Liverpool are only ever an injury or two away from needing Gomez in the starting XI.

Gomez was reportedly included in a transfer deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon head to Anfield and so his exit isn’t unthinkable, but Liverpool will no doubt want more than €20 million. It's worth mentioning that his valuation in that deal was £45m, making a drop to £16m - nearly £30m - staggering.

Too staggering, in fact, to entirely believe. We'll take this one with a pinch of salt but there's no question that Gomez's future is up in the air right now.
