Dani Olmo has given his assessment on two key Barca transfer targets

FC Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo has reportedly spoken with Luis Diaz whilst on holiday, with the Spaniard calling the Liverpool star “world class” amid rumours he could challenge Nico Williams in Barca’s transfer plans.

Athletic Bilbao winger Williams, an international teammate of Olmo’s, is still believed to be the Catalan giants’ top choice this summer, and Barca are understood to have an agreement in place with the in-demand 22-year-old.

Yet the deal is reportedly in limbo as Bilbao call for Barcelona to be audited while La Liga president Javier Tebas has warned Hansi Flick’s side they cannot register any expensive new signings at the moment.

Should the Williams deal collapse, Diaz will be a top target for Barca, who saw an approach for the 28-year-old rejected last summer.

Liverpool maintain that he is not for sale, rejecting another approach - this time from Bayern Munich - as recently as this week, according to widespread reports.

But according to Olmo, who says he spoke to the Colombian when they met on holiday in Ibiza, Diaz is “a world-class player, and Barca should have the best players”.

“I'll keep it to myself, it was a private conversation,” Olmo told the media when asked about the transfer rumours. “I didn't know him. He's a great person.”

On Diaz’s credentials, he added: “He's proven it. He's a world-class striker and winger, there's no doubt about that.”

Olmo then proceeded to discuss his countryman and potential future teammate Williams, saying: “Nico is another example. I don't know anything. We'll talk during the holidays.

“Nico is a very top player, but we have to respect the fact that he's not a Barca player. The best have to play at Barca. Nico is a great player. He's shown the level he brings with his club and the national team. We already know how he would adapt. I like to play with the best."
