In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Premier League scout Mick Brown revealed that Liverpool are the favourites to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer. Brown said,

“Tottenham have been looking at Marc Guehi again.

“They want to sign a centre-back and he’s been on their list since they had that bid rejected in January, because Palace might be willing to let him go.

“I think it’s going to be a difficult one to get done though, because Liverpool are the favourites.

“He wants to go to a top-level side where he’s got a chance to win things like the Premier League and Champions League on a consistent basis.

“So I’m told he’s got his heart set on a move to Liverpool, where he could go and do that.

“They’re definitely interested in him and I expect they’ll make another offer at some stage.

“If that doesn’t happen, though, I wouldn’t be overly shocked to see him stay at Palace for another season and wait to go to Liverpool on a free transfer.

“Even if Tottenham do come in for him, I expect he would prefer to wait it out and see what else comes.

“There’s always a bit of uncertainty about Tottenham, for me, and I think he wants to go somewhere he’s going to be stitched-on and he knows what he’s going to get.

“Liverpool are the one he wants, so I think Tottenham will have to look elsewhere.”

Guehi’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Guehi enjoyed a decent run of form at the London club in the previous campaign after he put in a handful of impressive performances at the heart of their backline. The English talent was involved in 44 matches for the Eagles last season, scoring three times and grabbing a couple of assists across all fronts.

The 25-year-old was a solid presence inside his half as he made 61 tackles, 55 blocks and 28 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession from the back, based on his pass completion rate of 83.5% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).

What Will Guehi Add To Liverpool Boss Arne Slot’s Team?

Guehi is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can play his way out from the back.

The English sensation has proven his worth as one of the best defenders in the Premier League over the past 12 months. Thus, it is no surprise that the Reds want to get a deal done for him this summer.

Guehi would add more bite and steel to Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s defence. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team place at Anfield.

At 25, Guehi has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Merseyside club to pursue in this transfer window. He might even help the Reds challenge for a lot of major trophies over the next few years.
