In a recent report, The Daily Mirror claimed that Liverpool are facing stiff competition for KRC Genk playmaker Konstantinos Karetsas. It is believed that the Reds would have to rival Newcastle United and Manchester United in pursuit of the Greek whizkid.

Karetsas’ Rapid Rise In Belgian Football

Karetsas has caught the eye with his performances for Genk in the final third during this campaign. The 17-year-old has registered three goals and four assists in 33 matches for the Belgian outfit this season across all competitions.

The talented teenager has proven his worth on the offensive end of the field as he averaged 1.3 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Jupiler Pro League. He was even accurate with his ball distribution after making 80.7% of his attempted passes in the Belgian top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Genk will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Reds would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Karetsas this off-season.

Liverpool Are Facing Stiff Competition For Karetsas: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Karetsas has developed a habit of scoring some important goals for his team from the number ten position. He can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates up top.

The Greek teenager is a good dribbler as well. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to prove his worth in the Premier League if the Reds manage to get him on board this summer.

Karetsas is already good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at Liverpool. He would no doubt add more firepower to Arne Slot’s frontline in the long run. Karetsas could serve as an ideal understudy to Dominik Szoboszlai at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons.

At 17, the Greek sensation has the potential to be a future star in English football. With all things considered, Karetsas is undeniably a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Liverpool would be wise to step up their efforts to land him later this year.
