In a recent report, Bild stated that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Bayer 04 Leverkusen talent Florian Wirtz this summer. It has been claimed that the Merseyside club’s representatives are flying out to Boston to gain approval on a €150m deal to sign the German attacker this off-season.

Wirtz’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga

Wirtz has enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the German club as he has been responsible for putting in a lot of impressive displays for them in the final third. The German playmaker has found the back of the net 16 times and secured 15 assists in 45 matches for Bayer Leverkusen this season across multiple competitions.

The 22-year-old has given a good account of himself in the opposition half and deserves credit for averaging 2.5 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass success rate of 82.3% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).

Wirtz is under contract at the German club until the summer of 2027. Thus, the Reds have got no choice but to make a big offer if they are serious about signing him this off-season.

Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Go For Wirtz?

Wirtz is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create a few inviting chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field. The German playmaker is a technically gifted footballer who can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range.

The Pulheim-born talent mainly operates in the number ten position but can also operate as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can handle the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.

Wirtz would no doubt enhance the quality of Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s attack. He is good enough to compete for regular first-team football at Anfield next season.

At 22, Wirtz has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great fit for the Merseyside club‘s needs in the long run. Therefore, it makes sense for the Reds to go for a player of his quality and potential in this summer transfer period.
