Having already secured Olivier Giroud (38) from Los Angeles FC, Lille OSC’s search for a new left-back could see them dip back into the American market, with Foot Mercato reporting that the club are interested in Philadelphia Union’s Kai Wagner (28) and have made contact over a possible transfer.
Wagner made his professional debut in his home country of Germany in 2015. The defender then bounced around, joining FC Schalke II in 2016 and then FC Würzburger Kickers the following year. In 2019, Wagner then made the move to the MLS.
Wagner has had a successful career in the US, having made 239 appearances for Philadelphia, scoring 9 and assisting 52. He’s been selected onto the MLS All-Star team three times (in 2021, 2022, and 2025).
Lille are in desperate need of a new left-back, with the club having lost last season’s three-man rotation of Mitchel Bakker, Ismaily, and Gabriel Gudmundsson. They were recently linked with a move for Real Betis fullback Romain Perraud (27).
