In an interview with RMC Sport LOSC Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier spoke about  a level of “hype” surrounding him as one of the youngest goalkeepers in Ligue 1 – with the recent retirements of Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandanda from international football, there is a sense that there may be an opportunity for Chevalier to make his mark.

“I think I must be the youngest goalkeeper of the Ligue 1 and who, in addition, plays in a club like Lille, it attracts the eye. I believe in my qualities, I try to help the team with a coach who asks very particular things.”

“Playing the ball out from the back is risky, but it’s also intelligent when you’re young and starting out,” said Chevalier. “You have to respect the game plan but also think about yourself because you’re just starting out. You need to build confidence to perform well.”

“And yes, there may be a little “hype” but after all, that’s the way the business is, it’s evolution”, said the young French goalkeeper.

Despite the hype surrounding him, Chevalier remains grounded and focused on improving his game. He acknowledges that being a professional footballer has its highs and lows, but he is determined to continue working hard and achieving success on the field – with a potential France future on the horizon.
