Liga F has finally returned and 16 teams will begin their journey in Spain’s top division. This year will get underway as scheduled, with strikes from referees and players postponing the last two campaigns.

A considerable amount of players left their teams over the summer to pursue an adventure in England or the US, so we will see how it affects the competitiveness. Let’s take a look at every team competing in Liga F this season and how they’ve fared over the summer.

Athletic Club

Athletic Club lost ten players over the summer and signed three, with Leire Baños being the most interesting, arriving from Levante UD. They have a mix of young players and experienced veterans. Athletic always compete and they have the recognisable and admirable identity of being a historical club.

Atlético de Madrid

Colchoneras just missed out on a Champions League spot after losing against Rosenborg, so they will put their full focus on their Liga F season. Important players like Ana-Marie Crnogorčević, Estefanía Banini, Ludmila, Leicy Santos and Eva Navarro all moved on to other teams, but Atlético signed NWSL, WSL and other Liga F players who just need to connect between them to become a successful team.

Barcelona

Barça are once again the favourites to win the league. This season, with new manager Pere Romeu and signings Ewa Pajor, Ellie Roebuck and Kika Nazareth joining Barcelona regulars at their best level, they will be pushing even harder to lift the title again. We will see how the departures of Lucy Bronze and Mariona affect the team, though.

Granada

Last season, Granada narrowly avoided relegation from Liga F, as they had just two points more than Villarreal. With ten new signings, Antonio Moreno’s side are looking to avoid another struggle and fight at the bottom of the table.

Levante

Granotas saw how important players went to other teams. Their situation is hard, as the president decided to cut their investment after being out of Champions League last year. This also meant Sanchez Vera departures as manager.

Levante Badalona

Formerly Levante Las Planas, the club have changed the name and the city where they are based following an important investment. This also allowed them to sign new players like Estefanía Banini, María Llompart, Berta Pujadas and Maria Valenzuela. Their project is aiming to be in the upper-mid table this season.

Madrid CFF

The capital city team underwent almost a full renovation, with nine new players coming through the door, and ten bidding farewell. Their first match is at home against UD Tenerife. Madrid CFF finished in the sixth spot last season and they are expected to achieve similar this time round.

Real Madrid

Every year, Real Madrid move a little bit closer to Barcelona, but they are still far away from winning the league. Alba Redondo and Melanie Leupolz are their best signings, but they did lose Hayley Raso, Claudia Zornoza, and eight other players over the summer.

Real Sociedad

Coach Natalia Arroyo left the team, but a good manager has arrived at the Basque club. Txuri-Urdin also saw three leave players the club and signed nine in return. Their way of competing often causing problems for the ‘bigger’ teams, so you can expect entertainment when watching Real Sociedad play.

Betis

The Andalucians were involved in the relegation fight last season, but they were saved in the end. They have a lot of young talent born after the 2000s, who are undoubtedly the future of the club.

Sevilla

Another Andalucian team who performed well last season, finishing in seventh place. They will start the 2024/25 season against Real Sociedad. Signed interesting players from Bayern Munchen, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, among others.

Costa Adeje Tenerife

Costa Adeje Tenerife finished in ninth position last season. They are one of the oldest teams in the league, with plenty of experienced players, and this year they signed a few international diamonds.

Valencia

Some of Valencia’s most important players in Berta Pujadas, María Molina, Fiamma Benítez left the club, but they found good solutions from international teams. They want to perform better than last year, when they were at risk of dropping out of Liga F.

Eibar

The Basques will start the season at home against Real Betis and it is set to be an interesting game to see how this team will fare. After finishing 10th last season, Eibar were a respectful team with a strong knack for playing a defensive football.

Deportivo de la Coruña

The Galician team are back from the second division. Their opening match will take place at the big stadium, Riazor. Deportivo have always been a humble team with a nice style of playing. They really deserve to be back in Liga F.

RCD Espanyol

The Catalans have also come back up to the first division. New coach Sara Monforte already knows how to perform in Liga F, where she managed Villareal during the past years. Their re-debut will be the opening match against Real Madrid.
