In a report by Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke via X, the two clubs have reached an agreement for the transfer of Williams. The wing-back will now head to the capital for all the formalities.

Williams has featured 16 times for the Trotters in League One this season, as the club have suffered a relatively underwhelming start to the season. He will join up with Richie Wellens' flying O's who've leapfrogged Bolton in the table in recent weeks.

The former Watford prospect has gained a wealth of experience in the EFL, with stints at Wycombe Wanderers, Hull City, and Exeter City. Now, it looks like Williams is set to add Leyton Orient to that list, as the O's have reportedly agreed a deal with Bolton over his transfer.

O'Rourke has reported that the two clubs have agreed a deal, which will see the winger turned wing-back move to Brisbane Road on a short-term deal.

Williams was no longer part of the plans for the future at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, following the appointment of Steven Schumacher as manager. With his contract due to expire in the summer, he's been offered the chance to earn himself a longer deal in the summer, should he be a success with Orient.

Now in search of more regular gametime, the O's hierarchy will evaluate Williams in his first half-season at the club, before making a decision on his long-term future.

Bolton deal could be a real coup for Orient

The signing of Williams could be a smart piece of business for the play-off chasers. Despite his lack of gametime this season, the departure will certainly weaken Bolton, who are a direct rival of Orient.

It seems to be a pretty risk-free deal, especially on a short-term deal. The O's have six months to evaluate Williams and if they aren't satisfied, his contract won't be renewed. If they are, though, it could prove to be an incredible piece of business in the long-run.

Having proven to be a quality player at Exeter, Williams has since struggled for minutes after making a move to Hull and then Bolton. A move to Brisbane Road is now a great chance to get more gametime and try to recapture the form he showed in Devon.

Now 28, Williams is in what should be the peak of his career, so it will be incredibly frustrating to him because of his lack of appearances this season. However, a fresh start in the capital seems to be a great move for all parties involved.
