The 2024/25 Premier League season fast approaching, just over three weeks away now.

Newcastle United fans with the latest collection of opinions below, plus sometimes the odd visitor from elsewhere…

Contributions are sometimes too brief to make up into a full article and so we have gathered up a number of recent comments sent in, relating to issues at Newcastle United (if you would like to send anything in, long or short, then contribute@themag.co.uk is the place):

Dear Mag,

I must have watched a different Spurs match to most of your contributors.

Nick Pope has a disastrous habit of palming away balls he could catch. I get that is the modern way but I would love to hear what some of the older keepers think of this trend.

We are continually being told that modern goalkeepers should be judged on their distribution as well as more traditional factors. His is awful.

I am guessing many will say Kelly is not the finished article. I do hope so. There must be better options at left back.

We have 2 wins and a draw. With a little less luck we could be sitting with 2 or 3 points.

I do hope nobody is getting carried away with our start to this campaign.

Given the improvements made by our nearest rivals, this could be a tough season.

Laurence Golightly

Dear Mag,

A bit embarrassing these negative snap judgements some Newcastle fans are making already, after just a couple of weeks of the season.

Especially when, as pointed out on The Mag by one writer, this is the best start to the season in 13 years in terms of results!

Eddie Howe has had a lot to deal with and these early games were always going to be tough when you look at half a dozen players missing through injury or suspension.

We haven’t been terrible.

NUFC have played ok, maybe a 6 out of 10, 7 out of 10 in patches, but what they have got is heart and desire, they play for the the fans, the club and Eddie Howe.

As we move on after this bloody stupid international break, the performances will pick up and hopefully the results will stay as positive!

Dear Mag,

Hi, how about these ideas for new super ground.

The ground could be substantially developed by relocating Leazes terrace the flats / houses behind the east stand, say up onto Barrack Rd on the Levant bar site. It’s presently up for sale / lease and maybe with a little help from the Freemen they could be.

Then we also look at the businesses down to Strawberry place, the row of terraced houses, we could purchase them (loads a money) then we could either dismantle them and give them to Beamish and rebuild them for Beamish, or keep them and rebuild into the new stand, and let them at minimal rents for Victorian style shops with staff in old style uniform and use them as a Beamish style attraction for the residents of Newcastle to use and to attract tourists to the old style shopping, eating, food shops , say bakers for proper pies and great old style fish and chips, a real old style working area for the whole of Newcastle.

By creating the space you would have the capacity to build a truly massive and great stadium for all of the North East.

The capacity must also be built with spare seats for a massive demand, as when we are wining leagues and cups, more people will want to come.

So lets go for a 90,000 seater or more, a few empties each home game will allow for people like myself who cannot get to every game due to health reasons, or people who work at weekends or away, can then turn up on the day, just like the old days .

Best regards Stephen Anderson (supporter of 50 years and still in love)

P.S I was a season ticket holder for 21 years and more just going on the day as you could in the 70s, just thought maybe these suggestions might work for a new super ground.

Dear Mag,

G’day Readers of the Esteemed Mag from Australia.

John Gibson in the Journal/Chronicle last week wrote a wonderful article on Derek Wright’s book entitled “My Story in Black and White.”

John’s article made the book to be compelling reading.

A bit of background.

Derek was our Senior Physiotherapist for 35 years and worked with amongst others the immortal SBR and my all-time favourite NUFC Player/Manager KK.

The book contains some very funny and great stories of working with players such as Alan Shearer, Lee Clark, “Killer” Kilcline, Steve Taylor amongst other immortals of his time.

Charities in Stanley and Morpeth will benefit financially from the sale of the book.

Please check out John’s article from the 29th August and if you purchase the book, I really hope you enjoy it.

Wishing you all a great season. HWTL

Dear Mag,

Well that’s that then, as Big Al says, they have failed Eddie.

First of all lets look at the two people in charge of transfers and the running of our club.

One talks a good game, the other likes to get on stage and have a singalong!

In my humble opinion we put all our eggs in one basket. i.e. trying to get that lad from Palace.

They must have known the price??

They go in with a number of bids and get nowhere.

The palace chairman, just for good measure ups the price!!

We should have walked away, he was never going to sell to us.

Then i noticed we were in for that winger from Forest.

REALLY, with just a couple of hours to go???

Two people leave the club who did an outstanding job, then we get these two.

One word comes to mind sorry folks, ASHLEY, because again, in my opinion, these like him, to me they come across as arrogant.

Its not all doom and gloom, we kept our star men,

Tonali is back, we signed Hall, got a good CB in Kelly.

And 2 goalies, but I wont go there…

Now here’s my take on things, bit negative I know but can you imagine it.

No signings.

These two tell Eddie to get on with it.

Eddie takes the Egland job.

These two get what they want ….the Saudi national manager MANCINI.

I’m sure everyone is behind Eddie, his staff and the players.

Sorry if this all comes across as a bit negative but I really thought we would cash in, in this transfer window.

I know one bloke who will be smiling, Dan Ashworth.
