Lessons must be learned from Brugge game

Only Swiss outfit Young Boys stand between us and all but securing a play off place for the last 16 of the champions league later this evening.

Young Boys are struggling domestically while failing to register a single point so far in this champions league campaign, and are merely judged as cannon fodder to most.

That however is not only disrespectful, but also very naive. Yes they may be having a disastrous campaign, but they are still a side deemed good enough to compete at this level, and having nothing to lose will make them a very dangerous opponent, so underestimating them would be rather foolish indeed.

Yes we should be beating them, especially at home, but thinking it’s a formality beforehand is a very dangerous mindset for both the supporters and players alike.

If you want an example just cast your mind back to the Club Brugge game. The Belgian side despite just defeating Aston Villa, and very much like ourselves having a decent campaign weren’t seen as much of a threat before we faced them at Celtic park back in November.

I think it’s fair to say that a large majority of the supporters and the players underestimated the Belgians on the night.

That proved to be a momentous mistake as the Belgian side could consider themselves unlucky not to leave Celtic park with all three points on the night as they controlled a mast majority of a game in which we gladly accepted a point in the end.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
