Liverpool Frustrated by Newcastle United in St. James’ Park Thriller

That’s two points dropped, three points conceded and to be honest absolutely zero semblance of control on this one. Liverpool were all over the shop for most of the game at St James Park and there was so much not to like with what we saw on a cold wet and windy Wednesday night. You wouldn’t have got much money on six goals scored, about 7353 yellows and the same amount of errors but there we are. Arne Slot will have as many nightmares around this one as he did with Forest at home. We look at the lessons learned from a game that had everything.

The Best In The World

Come of the hour, come of the world’s best and for all intents and purposes we should be celebrating him as the match winner again. Liverpool were 2-1 down when he rocked up to this party and decided to steer home Trent’s Centre to equalise. The same two players decide to repeat the trick later on when the right-back’s pass saw the Egyptian king swivel and then finish into the bottom corner. It’s insane that on a night like that he’ll score two and get an assist, yet still come away without the three points. He’ll be rightly raging with some team-mates in this one.

Defensive Disaster-class

Arne Slot was answering questions about how good his defence was in the pre match press conference. They won’t be asking that one anymore as Liverpool looked at sixes and sevens all night. With only five fit players for four positions there’s real concerns there now as Quansah struggled massively at makeshift right-back and Joe Gomez may have been taken off to spare him anymore.

Kelleher spared a Gomez’s blushes from Gordon in the first-half, but would have wanted the ground to swallow him up when he Schar steered in the cross he left. Just poor by so many tonight. Not the lost wanted ahead of the derby.

Awful Performances From So Many

None more so than Andy Madeley, who was absolutely stinking in the middle and one can only assume that Joelinton has indecent images of him stored somewhere. Yellow cards were dished out for nothing to men in red and the inconsistency was infuriating. However, whilst we’ve mentioned defensive issues here, it was one of those performances where Darwin Nunez leaves you equal measure raging and shaking your head. The Uruguayan shanked one in the second half and couldn’t seem to trap a bag of cement. He has these in his locker Nunez at times. We really can’t afford anymore this season.
