Lennon Miller will not be short of offers, hopefully he picks the one right for him

Lennon Miller is a player very much in demand, and one that has been linked to Celtic amongst other clubs down south and throughout the continent over the past few weeks.
It was reported yesterday that the Motherwell star, who just made his first start for the national side in the 4-0 win in Liechtenstein is a target for EPL new boys Sunderland with a massive £10 million being quoted as the fee.
That price in my view is just nothing but fabricated nonsense, and as talented as the young lad is, no club (not even the cash laden EPL sides) is going to be parting with that sort of money for a young player outwith the big two in Scotland, especially when he only has one year remaining on his contract.

Motherwell pretty much have to sell or get Miller to commit to a new contract, or risk seeing the valuation drop dramatically. If he is still a Motherwell player come the January window with just six months left on his contract then the price will be significantly lower that the community owned club could achieve at the moment. So Motherwell need to sell this summer and of course they need to maximise their price.
Scotland caps help a little, so too does the U21 POTY awards collected by young Lennon last month, but for the price to reach £10m there would have to be a bidding frenzy and from Motherwell’s point of view the more clubs interested the better.
Celtic enquired in January, Motherwell were reluctant to sell at that point but Celtic will very much be an interested party who will be kept in the loop by the seller. and rightly so. There is no need for Celtic to be in contact with Motherwell ahead of the window opening. If the bidding goes too far beyond Celtic’s valuation then that would be that. We’ll see what happens and the player himself will have a major say in what happens too. If he wants to go abroad, or to play sign for a Premier League club or to stay in Scotland and play in the Champions League, he’ll make his own preferences known.

Miller is a player I admire as do many Celtic supporters and he would add an extra dimension to our midfield, but does Brendan Rodgers admire him enough to go to the kind of sums now being thrown around? If Miller is rated at £5 but the price has doubled would the Celtic boss prefer to sign a higher rated £10m player from elsewhere for his valuation.
That’s the most important factor to consider. Sunderland, or any other club, might want to go beyond the player’s valuation but it’s not a game Celtic will play.
If Brendan Rodgers does want to sign Lennon Miller – and he will almost certainly be a player under serious consideration this summer by the Scottish Champions – then he will go all out to get him, and the club will part with a hefty fee to entice him to Celtic park, but nowhere near the £10 million quoted.

That’s just wishful thinking from a Motherwell perspective and the best of luck to them if they can get it. There might just be a club desperate enough. It reminds me of Southampton trying to sign Matt O’Riley last summer. A relegation dog-fight didn’t really appeal and he ended up going just along the coast to Brighton, who are established as Premier League club these days.
Promoted sides tend to get relegated or at best survive for a year or so after major dog-fights. Maybe Lennon Miller will be looking for more than that and maybe he’ll find it at Paradise. Depends on the price.
