Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has understandably caught the attention of some elite clubs with his exploits in the Championship this season, but even his latest admission may not be enough to settle the fears of Leicester City fans.

He has been linked with a host of top clubs, including Tottenham and Brighton, but his latest revelation appears to suggest he sees his immediate future at the King Power Stadium.

However, with the Foxes currently in a difficult financial position and facing Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) charges upon promotion to the Premier League, a high-value asset like Dewsbury-Hall may not have much of a choice when it comes to where he ends up next summer.

It may bring back memories to Leicester fans of Wesley Fofana, who moved under similar circumstances and whose transfer became somewhat of a saga as a result.

Interest in Dewsbury-Hall is intense

Brighton had already tabled a bid for the 25-year-old in January and look set to go back in once more, but this time it seems they could be joined by the likes of Spurs and Manchester United this time.

A trio of top clubs being interested looks ripe for a bidding war, which could drive the price up and make offers irresistible to the recently promoted side.

It seems the Foxes will look to make the most of this, with them reportedly fixing a £40million price tag on their midfielder, a fee that could rise if multiple clubs further their interest.

He wants to stay, but there are other considerations

Speaking at the club's award ceremony, where he was presented the Player of the Season award, he said: "I’ve been at this club since I was 8 years old… I’ve got no intention of leaving."

In ordinary circumstances, that would be enough to leave fans thinking they have one of their key players locked in for the upcoming season, but other factors may intervene in this case.

The club made losses to the tune of £89.7million last season, and are already contending with a PSR charge from the Premier League.

A sale of Dewsbury-Hall at anywhere near the £40million would provide significant breathing room as they navigate these issues, especially with him coming through the academy system, meaning in accounting terms he would go down as 'pure profit' and all of his fee would count towards offsetting losses.

Staying may be his preference, but his transfer may be what is best for the club.

Dewsbury-Hall situation may bring back bad memories

The Foxes were in a similar financial spot when they sold Fofana to Chelsea back in 2022, and that saga means that many Foxes fans will take this fresh assurance with a pinch of salt.

The young defender spoke to the Telegraph in an interview that was released early in August 2022, where he said:"I have always felt like a native of Leicester. It’s a big club and an institution but everyone has time for each other and understands.

"We are all brothers, sisters and cousins. It’s a big season for me and for Leicester."

By the end of that same month, Fofana was unsettled under consistent bids from Chelsea, to the extent that he reportedly missed a training session and was subsequently left out of the Leicester team, before eventually moving to the west London side at the end of August.

That tale may spring to the minds of Leicester fans with this latest Dewsbury-Hall update, and they will likely not want to get excited too fast for fear of something similar happening.

The midfielder would stay in the ideal scenario, but other considerations may come first, and Foxes fans will be fearing the worst over this summer. Whatever happens, supporters will be hoping that a saga on the scale of the Fofana deal can be avoided this time around.
