Millwall are hoping to fend off interest from the likes of Leicester City
Millwall have set an asking price of greater than £10 million for Mihailo Ivanovic in a bid to fend off interest from the likes of Leicester City.
According to Football Insider, the Lions are seeking an eight-figure sum for the forward as we approach the final days of the summer market.
Ivanovic has impressed since joining the London outfit last year from the Serbian SuperLiga, cementing himself as a key part of the Championship club’s first team squad.
The 20-year-old has contributed 12 goals and one assist from 40 appearances in the second division across this and last season.
Millwall have reportedly set an asking price in excess of £10 million for Ivanovic ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline.
It is understood that the Lions are hoping to price Leicester out of the market for the forward in these late stages of the window.
A number of clubs have been linked with a move for the Serbian throughout the summer, but Millwall have been able to hold onto him for the time being.
Time is now quickly running out in the market, with just days remaining until it slams shut for the remainder of the calendar year.
Martí Cifuentes is looking to bolster his first team squad following major player sales at the King Power, but it’s believed that the Foxes are put off by the fee being asked for Ivanovic.
However, previous links to Everton and Wolves could yet materialise in a move, particularly given the speculation surrounding Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Millwall will be keen to keep hold of such an important part of Alex Neil’s side as they push for promotion to the Premier League.
The Lions have earned six points from a possible nine to start the season, and will face Wrexham on Saturday in their final fixture before the September international break.
Ivanovic had a very strong and promising first season in English football, and Millwall will be hoping that he goes from strength to strength over the next 12 months.
With how late it now is in the window, replacing him would be very difficult, so they are entirely justified in setting an eight-figure asking fee for him.
They will also know that Leicester are keen to strengthen with the sales they’ve made, so the London outfit are able to negotiate from a position of strength.
It’s hard to see Ivanovic leaving at this stage, and his development may be better off remaining at the Den for the time being anyway.
