Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti feels that it is important for the Nerazzurri to not treat the job as being done against Benfica in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Speaking to Italian news outlet 90min.com, the former Nerazzurri President stressed that the second leg will still be a lot for the team to do, although in his view the job is about halfway done after the 2-0 win in the first leg.

There is no denying that Inter have given themselves a tangible advantage to hang onto in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie against Benfica.

A 2-0 lead means that the Nerazzurri do have a margin for error.

However, in some ways the worst thing that Inter could do in this situation is become complacent, particularly with Benfica likely to throw caution to the wind now that they know they must overturn a deficit.

This is certainly the view of former Inter President Moratti.

The former President finds that the right way of looking at it is that the Nerazzurri have work to do, but that at the same time, they can say that they’ve already taken a big step with what they did in Lisbon in the first leg on Tuesday.

“This was a very important obstacle to overcome,” the former President said of the first leg of the quarterfinal tie against the Aguias at the Estadio da Luz, “it hasn’t yet been done totally done, but they’ve done 50% of the work, maybe even more.”

“And I would say now they’re in a good position to reach the next round, where they would meet one of two Italian teams,” the Nerazzurri President added, with AC Milan and Napoli in the other quarterfinal tie on the same side of the bracket as Inter.

“After that, only the final would remain.”
