Fabio Capello believes seeing Napoli draw with Udinese yesterday will “energize” Inter Milan against Fiorentina this evening.

Capello gave his thoughts ahead of the match in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.

Inter Milan have suffered a couple big setbacks in Serie A in their last two matches.

After a draw with city rivals AC Milan in the derby, the Nerazzurri fell to a shock 3-0 loss away to Fiorentina.

That means that Inter are definitively behind Napoli in the Serie A table. They have no game in hand to point to.

And Napoli’s form this season has certainly been worrying.

The Partenopei have really grown into the campaign. At the start of 2025, they have picked up statement wins over the likes of Atalanta and Juventus.

Capello: “Napoli Draw Vs Udinese Will Energize Inter Vs Fiorentina”

But Napoli have hit a bit of a speed bump themselves.

Having conceded a stoppage time equalizer against Roma last weekend, the Partenopei have drawn a second consecutive match 1-1.

And the fact that that stalemate came against midtable Udinese means that it was a surprise. And it means that Inter have a chance to get to within a point of the league leaders if they beat Fiorentina this evening.

24 hours ago, Inter would not have expected that to be the case.

Former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello said that “On a psychological level, that draw can certainly give strength to the teams chasing.”

“Although Inter don’t have an easy match this evening,” he noted.

“Against a Fiorentina side who just a few days ago beat them 3-0.”

“But the slip-up by Napoli can be an injection of energy for Inzaghi’s players,” argued Capello. “Especially after that tough defeat in Florence.”

“But they’ll have to watch out. As I said, it won’t be easy for them against Fiorentina at the San Siro.”

Of the 3-0 loss against Fiorentina, Capello argued that “Above all, Inter were off the pace of the match.”

“Then the slow possession made Palladino’s tactical plan a lot easier. La Viola just had to sit back and be quick on the counter when they won the ball back to send the Nerazzurri into disarray.”

“But I believe Inzaghi’s worked on that,” Capello predicted. “To avoid a repetition of the match in Florence.”
