Leeds United have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Dilane Bakwa from Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
After missing out on Igor Paixao to Olympique Marseille, Leeds have shifted their focus to Bakwa in their search for a new winger before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
Bakwa, who has two years on his current deal, scored six goals and provided eight assists last time out in his second season at Strasbourg since joining from Bordeaux.
His impressive performances for Strasbourg have made him one of Ligue 1’s most sought-after young talents, with a blend of pace, creativity and goal threat.
The 22-year-old is capable of operating in multiple positions across the frontline and would offer Leeds manager Daniel Farke a variety of options in attack.
With new signings such as Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin already bolstering the forward line, Bakwa would add further depth and competition for Leeds as they look to establish themselves in the Premier League.
Having reportedly rejected an offer from Nottingham Forest, Strasbourg are looking for a fee just north of the €31.5 million they got for record sale Habib Diarra to part ways with Bakwa.
Bakwa’s arrival at Elland Road could have implications within the squad, particularly for Large Ramazani, whose future at the club appears uncertain.
Ramazani was an unused substitute in his side’s 1-0 victory over Everton on Monday and has been left out of the squad to face off against Arsenal later today.
