The German manager has just led Leeds to promotion but could be sacked.
Leeds United are reportedly considering sacking Daniel Farke, less than 48 hours after he helped them to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
The city of Leeds has barely finished celebrating their momentous achievement of sealing a spot in next season's Premier League and already reports have emerged that the club are considering swapping the manager that got them there for someone else.
According to the Daily Mail's Mike Keegan, some members of the club's ownership have reservations over Farke's record in the top flight, and they are thinking about a potential future that doesn't involve the German.
He came narrowly close to winning promotion with Leeds at the first time of asking last season, but they fell away from the top two at the last hurdle and then failed to win the play-offs.
This season Leeds haven't made the same mistake. Their return to the top table of English football was confirmed on Easter Monday thanks to a combination of their 6-0 win over Stoke City and Burnley's victory over Sheffield United. Thewin over the Blades also sealed the Clarets's promotion too.
They could well reach the 100-point mark if they win their final two contests, versus Bristol City (H) and Plymouth Argyle (A). But despite the immensely positive season that Farke and his team have had, there are doubts over his future at Elland Road.
The Leeds hierarchy's feet are starting to get slightly cold about the idea of Farke managing their team in the top flight, and so are looking at potential alternatives to the now three-time Championship promotion winner, according to Keegan.
His record at the highest level isn't great. He took Norwich City to the Premier League twice but failed to keep them up on the first occasion before he was sacked during his second effort.
The report from Keegan does state that the club's owners are aware that a move like this would have potentially fiery consequences if it were to backfire, especially given how popular he is in the club's dressing room. The Daily Mail journalist also added that the Whites would only consider sacking Farke if they had a replacement lined up.
Every smart, properly-functioning football club should always have back-up plans in place for their managers/head coaches. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail, as the old adage goes.
This, however, would be like a drunk man urinating on the fireworks on New Year's Eve. Why, when the club is on such a high, would Leeds even consider ruining the mood by replacing their promotion-winning manager?
It isn't the first time that 49ers Enterprises has reportedly considered pulling the plug on the former Norwich boss either. It was suggested that they thought about getting rid of him last summer after the loss to Southampton in the play-off final, but later reports from The Athletic have stated that there was no real meat behind those stories.
Even with the fears over his Premier League record, Farke should be given the chance to prove himself with Leeds at the highest level. The top flight will present a very tough challenge for the Whites, but it'd feel wrong to start tearing things down now.
