Leaked documents appear to show that former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is still connected to Dutch football club Vitesse Arnhem, per the Guardian.

The 57-year-old oversaw the most successful period in the Blues’ history after his 2003 takeover, with the club winning multiple Premier League and Champions League titles.

However, he was forced to sell the English club to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital after the United Kingdom government imposed sanctions.

The Russian billionaire appears to have retained a financial connection to Vitesse. Club owner Valery Oyf has reportedly funded it with loans from Abramovich.

The news comes just three weeks after Vitesse were deducted a record 18 points for breaching licensing regulations, condemning them to their first relegation in 35 years.

The Royal Dutch Football Federation launched an investigation after reporting by the Guardian and TBIJ revealed financial links between Vitesse and Abramovich.

The club was given severe punishment because of repeated breaches of licensing rules and withholding information.

They added there were ‘indications’ the former Chelsea owner had controlled or still controlled Vitesse.
