Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been attracting interest from the Premier League. So would the Biancocelesti entertain a sale?
The Italian capital side signed the Nigerian for €5.6 million from Hatayspor last summer. While he hasn’t carved himself a starting berth just yet, Marco Baroni often heaps praise on the 24-year-old who is slowly but surely establishing himself as an increasingly important element in the middle of the park.
In recent days, Dele-Bashiru has been linked with several Premier League clubs who are reportedly vying to bring him back to the English shores. The midfielder is a youth product of Manchester City and also had an experience at Sheffield Wednesday.
Il Corriere dello Sport also discusses the rumoured interest from Arsenal and Brighton. As the Roman newspaper explains, Lazio would like to keep Dele-Bashiru at Formello for now, as they believe he can still reach new heights.
Nevertheless, the source also notes that the club’s transfer strategy will largely hinge on Champions League qualification. In other words, the Aquile would be ready to consider offers for some of their prized assets (including Dele-Bashiru) if they fail to reach Europe’s elite club competition.
Lazio are currently leading the Serie A Top-Four race, but Juventus and Fiorentina remain hot on their heels, while Milan and Bologna aren’t too far behind either. Moreover, Serie A has now lost their second place in the UEFA coefficient table to LaLiga following a disappointing midweek in Europe, so the Italians will have to do better if they wish to unlock a fifth UCL spot for next season.
It is also worth mentioning that Lazio have an alternative route to the Champions League, as they’re considered one of the favorites to clinch the Europa League this season, especially after finishing the group stage on top of the 36-team table.
