With Patric’s condition causing major concern at the club, Lazio have reportedly identified Hellas Verona’s Daniele Ghilardi as their main target to fill up the gap at the back.
The Biancocelesti veteran sustained an ankle injury in previous weeks and has recently returned from Barcelona where he underwent treatment. However, the 32-year-old situation isn’t encouraging, as he could require surgery.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Spaniard will undergo tests in the coming hours, and the club (alongside the player) will make a definitive decision in light of the results. If surgical intervention is found mandatory, Patric could be set to miss the remainder of the season, leaving Marco Baroni with only three centre-backs at his disposal (Romagnoli, Gila and Gigot).
In this case, a new addition would be compulsory, especially with the club fighting on three different fronts. The source believes that Ghilardi could be Lazio’s primary target. The 22-year-old has been on Verona’s books since January 2022 when he made the switch from Fiorentina.
The Lucca native is enjoying his maiden Serie A campaign having spent the previous seasons on loan at Mantova and Sampdoria. He has made 11 appearances in Serie A thus far this term, cementing himself as a regular starter in Paolo Zanetti’s lineup.
