Lazio are reportedly keeping an eye on the progress of young Empoli striker Sebastiano Esposito who is delivering the goods upfront this season.

The Background

The 22-year-old is the middle child among three brothers who rose through Inter Milan’s youth ranks. But while his older brother Salvatore and younger sibling Francesco Pio are leading Spezia’s quest towards a return to Serie A, Sebastiano is already showcasing his prowess in the top flight this season.

Empoli to Complete Bargain Acquisition

The Italy U21 starlet joined Empoli last summer on loan with an option to buy set at €5 million, and the Tuscans are widely expected to activate this clause, as the young man has already scored 10 goals in his 19 appearances across all competitions this season, thus rendering this figure a bargain price.

Lazio Among the Clubs Interested in Sebastiano Esposito

But while Empoli are looking to make the move permanent, Esposito might not dwell at the Carlo Castellani for too long, as a host of higher-calibre clubs will be looking to snap up his services next summer. According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Lazio are among the clubs queuing up for Esposito. The list also includes Napoli, Fiorentina and Bologna.

Esposito’s Role

The Italian is a versatile attack who can almost play anywhere in the final third. This season, he has been mostly deployed as a second striker behind Lorenzo Colombo, but he’s also capable of leading the line himself, or even playing on the wings.
