Inter could be set for a major squad overhaul during the summer transfer window, with only a few players clearly set to be in the team next season including striker Lautaro Martinez.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that only seven players are virtually certain to stay into next season, whilst a number of names are either set to leave or have their fate up in the air.
Martinez is one player who has always made his commitment to Inter clear, and the Corriere report that there is virtually no chance that the Argentine will depart during the summer transfer window.
The likes of Hakan Calhanoglu, Matteo Darmian, Federico Dimarco, Andre Onana, Kristjan Asllani, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are the six other players who the newspaper names as virtually certain to stay in the summer.
On the other hand, a number of players are virtually certain to be on their way during the summer window.
The most high-profile would be defender Milan Skriniar, who has rejected the Nerazzurri’s offer of a contract extension and will join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer.
Wingback Denzel Dumfries is a player who the Nerazzurri are likely to cash in on in the summer, whilst his fellow wingback Raoul Bellanova is not looking overly likely to stay beyond the end of his season-long loan, according to the Corriere.
Meanwhile, midfielder Roberto Gagliardini is all but certain to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June, and the Corriere reports that the same is true of captain Samir Handanovic and defender Danilo D’Ambrosio.
Apart from these relative certainties, however, the newspaper notes that many players’ situations at Inter are simply up in the air.
Marcelo Brozovic is a player who, contrary to the sense of being virtually “irreplaceable” from only a few months ago, could be sold for the right offer.
Meanwhile, the future of defender Alessandro Bastoni at Inter is not clear, particularly in view of the fact that the 23-year-old’s current contract runs out at the end of June 2024 and no agreement has yet been found on an extension.
Striker Edin Dzeko and defender Stefan de Vrij are two players whose contracts with Inter run out at the end of June.
In the case of the Bosnian, the Nerazzurri want to agree a new deal, although there is still a gap to be made up in negotiations with regards to salary terms.
Meanwhile, the Dutchman is still thinking about his future, as he ponders some transfer interest from abroad.
Striker Romelu Lukaku is only at Inter on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season, whilst defender Francesco Acerbi is on loan from Lazio.
In each case, the Nerazzurri will have to decide upon whether to negotiate with their parent clubs at the end of the season.
As far as Lukaku is concerned, no decision has yet been made by Inter on whether or not to try and agree a new paid loan deal with Chelsea.
Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri would like to make Acerbi’s loan deal a permanent one, but not at the €4 million purchase option in his loan deal from the Biancocelesti.
Last but not least, there is wingback Robin Gosens, who is a player that Inter could be willing to listen to offers for.
Interest in the former Atalanta man has never really gone away, particularly from teams in the Bundesliga, and so he is yet another player who could very plausibly either stay at Inter or be on his way before the start of next season.
