Barcelona president Joan Laporta has once again stood firm in defence of the club’s identity and values, using the latest episode of La Llotja del 125 to share strong words about their long-standing rivalry with Real Madrid.

With pride in La Masia and confidence in the club’s direction, Laporta made it clear that Barça’s philosophy sets them apart.

Madrid is power, Barça is freedom

Speaking to a group of children during the programme, Laporta addressed the difference between the two Spanish giants with striking clarity.

“Madrid has a sense of power, and we have a sense of freedom, a sense of identity,” he said, highlighting how Real Madrid focus more on big-name signings while Barcelona continue to nurture homegrown talent through their famed La Masia academy.

“They’re more about signing players, and we have more players from La Masia.”

Laporta also looked back fondly on the past season, saying, “I’ve enjoyed some incredible generations of footballers and had a great time.”

He believes that in Barça’s 125th anniversary year, the team achieved something special, calling it “a glorious season.” Reflecting on the club’s playing style, he said,

“We want the ball to enjoy, to win. We don’t give up on being the leader. That’s what defines us.”

He made a pointed reference to the treble won against Real Madrid this season, noting, “We played, we enjoyed it. That’s one way to explain what Barça is.”

Barcelona’s return to the top

Laporta stressed that perseverance has been the key to Barcelona’s resurgence. “We’ve faced all the difficulties, and this has been one of the toughest seasons,” he said.

Referring to the club’s temporary move to Montjuic and the ongoing financial challenges, he praised the fans and members for standing by the team.

“Today, Barça has returned to the world’s top ranks; we are once again a benchmark,” Laporta proudly declared. He gave credit to everyone involved for pushing through the obstacles.

Reinforcing Barcelona’s unique identity, Laporta added, “Barça is more than a club today,” stressing that it’s still owned by its members.

“I don’t say that romantically, because it’s the best form of association,” he said. He dismissed critics who question the club’s structure, claiming their strategies come from “hidden agendas.”

Laporta’s comments serve as a powerful reminder of what makes Barcelona different, not just a club that wins, but one that stands for something much deeper.
