Lamine Yamal speaks out on comparisons with Barcelona icon Lionel Messi | OneFootball

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has this week provided his take on the mounting comparisons between he and club legend Lionel Messi.

The name of wide-man Lamine has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across world football over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after the Spanish starlet, at just 17 years of age, was named in FIFA’s ‘The Best XI’ of 2024.

As much essentially saw Lamine recognised as the standout right winger in all of world football.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his place in the XI being confirmed, a whole host of topics surrounding his game were in turn put to the attacker himself.

And one such question saw Lamine again drawn on the ongoing comparisons between he and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona prodigy, however, once more moved to play such chatter down, in assuring:

“Messi is the best in history, but I try to write my own story. Comparisons don’t always help.”
