The powers that be in Spanish football have rejected the most recent efforts of Barcelona to register Iñigo Martínez beyond the summer.
Thar’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have this weekend provided an insight into the situation.
The Barcelona brass have long made the call to activate a one-year extension clause in defender Iñigo’s expiring contract.
This comes with the Spaniard having played a starring role in boss Hansi Flick’s backline across a fine campaign in Catalunya’s capital to date.
Deco and co, in turn, recently made contact with La Liga, in an effort to make their defensive star’s fresh terms official.
As much, however, was knocked back by Javier Tebas and his team.
As per MD:
‘The official announcement of his renewal will still have to wait as La Liga believes that the Catalan club does not have sufficient salary margin at the moment.’
There is no need to fret, though, amid the assurance that Iñigo’s extension will be confirmed upon the opening of the summer transfer window.
