On Tuesday, La Liga updated their laws for the forthcoming 2024-25 season, and there were notable changes to be picked up upon.

One of these is actually a non-change, and it is that goal-line technology will continue to not be used in La Liga. The decision not have this technology utilised at the top level of Spanish football has been ridiculed in the past, and it’s unlikely to be popular that it continues to be omitted.

It’s also been announced that a sixth substitution can be made by La Liga teams in the event of a concussion/head injury for one of their players. This is a law that has been implemented across Europe in recent seasons.

Two more changes have been inspired by their implementation in international, including the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament. Semi-automated offsides will be brought in to La Liga, as was announced during last season, while in an effort to avoid referees being confronted by players, only captains are allowed to speak to officials during a match.

It remains to be seen how these changes are welcomed by La Liga’s 20 clubs for the 2024-25 season.
