Brexit may cause complications for Kyle Walker and his dream destination away from Manchester City this month, it has been detailed in new reports.

The Manchester City captain submitted a request to the Premier League champions and particularly sporting director Txiki Begiristain last week to explore his options in the ongoing January transfer window.

It is now widely understood that Walker is keen on exploring a new opportunity away from England, but remains intent on staying at the top of European football and as such is leaning away from the prospect of a Saudi Arabian proposal.

While talks are ongoing with potential suitors, Walker has remained out of Manchester City’s matchday squads against Salford City in the FA Cup third round and against Brentford in the Premier League this week.

But his intended destination of Italy, and particularly AC Milan, has faced further complications this week following the emergence of a rule in Italian football enforced in light of Brexit.

According to the information of The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, AC Milan will now need to make a decision over targeting Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford or Manchester City’s Kyle Walker amid a restriction on signing non-EU players after Brexit.

The Serie A giants can only sign one of the two aforementioned Manchester stars due to the league’s rules on non-EU signings, of which Italian clubs can only register two per season with Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal filling that quota.

However, clubs are permitted to add an extra player if they are English or Albanian, and that has led to AC Milan now reportedly weighing up which area of the squad to prioritise and whether to intensify their interest in Rashford or Walker.

Despite Walker’s intent to bring an end to a stellar career with Manchester City, manager Pep Guardiola recently admitted his belief that the 34-year-old still has plenty left in the tank and could yet remain an Etihad Stadium athlete for another “four years”.

“Incredible player, incredible physicality,” Guardiola said of Walker during a recent press conference. “When focussed, he’s unstoppable. A top class player!

“If he’s fit and his mind is there, he can play one, two, three, four more years. I’ve never seen a player with this physical condition in my career.”

When asked about what solutions he has in his existing squad should Walker leave the club and vacate the right-back berth this month, Guardiola reassured listeners, “I’m so clever! I’m such a talented manager to find the right solution…

“Listen, Kyle is our player, right now. So that’s all. So we have that option. What’s going to happen, I don’t know.”
