Why the clamour for Nicolas Kuhn of Celtic to be sent off?

Nicolas Kuhn was the Celtic hero yesterday as his last gasp goal grabbed us all three points, and kept up our one hundred percent record in the league as we remain top of the table on goal difference above high flying Aberdeen.

For some that was too much to take and there was howls of discontent from certain quarters that the German wasn’t ordered off after celebrating with the supporters behind the goal, while already being on a yellow card.

Firstly it wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the game, and secondly there’s now a leeway within the rules that didn’t make it necessary to issue Kuhn with a caution. Just last month at the same ground Aberdeen celebrated a late winner which seen the players celebrate with the supporters, so much so that there was an overspill onto the pitch.

No player was cautioned for their part in that and quite rightly too. Indeed even yesterday Aberdeen celebrated their late winner against Hearts in the same fashion, and no one was cautioned there either.

Referees are now allowed to use common sense when it comes to players celebrating a goal in the heat of the moment, and it should be applauded. And this has been the case for quite a while so you’d have thought that Sky Sports could reasonably expect their highly paid pundit to have a better grasp of the rules of the game.

Let’s be honest if that was a late winner for theRangers up in Dingwall and their goalscorer ran into the crowd in exactly the same way as Nicolas Kuhn did yesterday, then Kris Boyd would have had a massive smile on his face and would have had zero to say about the player not being booked.

So why do we suddenly have pundits and rival supporters wanting players cautioned for celebrating a goal? I think we all know the answer to that one…it was a CELTIC goal!

Here’s former referee Bobby Madden, of all people , clarifying the situation and putting Boyd back in his box.
